New miles-earning credit card released: The Beobank Brussels Airlines Mastercard

Brussels Airlines

Finally, the long promised Beobank Brussels Airlines Mastercard has been released as of today, 21 March 2025.

History

In 2024, Brussels Airlines / Miles & More chose to terminate their collaboration with American Express, resulting in the loss of one of the top credit cards for earning miles for people in Belgium. Although American Express has been promoting their Gold and Platinum cards with attractive sign-up bonuses, certain factors deterred Belgians from signing up to them:

  • High annual fee
  • Unfavourable points-to-miles transfer rates
  • Limited acceptance of American Express in Belgium and the rest of Europe

Above is a quick rundown of the new cards from Beobank and Brussels Airlines. A few things to keep in mind:

  • There’s a limit on how many miles you can earn each year. With the Explorer card, you can rack up a maximum of 25.000 miles annually. If you have the Explorer Plus card, that jumps to 50.000 miles, and for Altitude cardholders, it’s up to 100.000 miles per year.
  • Lounge Vouchers are only valid for flights operated by Brussels Airlines.
  • The Mastercard Travel Rewards comes with 2 fast lane passes, which seems a bit low since the Flyingblue version offers 4 passes each year.
  • A notable change is that you won’t earn any miles when booking with competitor airlines. It raises the question of whether they can track all airlines and if bookings through online travel agents will pass through their detection systems.

Beobank Flyingblue Card Existence

With the release of the new Mastercard of Brussels Airlines in collaboration with Beobank, it generates more competition for American Express. The big question is whether this will affect the Mastercard that Beobank offers in partnership with FlyingBlue. So far, there hasn’t been any official word on it, and this is purely speculation.

Miles & More Miles vs American Express

It is clear that Miles & More is cutting ties with American Express (or vice-versa). This month, American Express Belgium has stated that the collaboration between American Express and Miles & More stopped. Therefore, it will not be possible anymore to transfer American Express points into Miles & More miles.
