American Express Cards Belgium: Sign-up Offer Up To 150.000 Points With Platinum

American Express has an offer for citizens from Belgium & Luxemburg if they sign up for the American Express Gold or the American Express Platinum card. Currently, American Express is offering up to 150.000 Membership Rewards Points to Belgians with the Platinum card. For Gold card it is 60.000 Membership Rewards Points. The promotion is valid until 27th of May.

How to use American Express Belgium Membership Rewards Points

Your Membership Rewards Points are very flexible. You can transfer your points to various partners, such as Delta Airlines, British Airways or Etihad. Thanks to the collaboration of British Airways with Iberia and Qatar Airways you can also use your converted Avios for these airlines.

The transfer partners with their corresponding transfer rates are:

By converting your American Express Membership Rewards Points for 3:2, 150.000 points can be used to convert them to 100.000 Avios. These Avios can then be used to book business class tickets with for example Qatar Airways. I booked a flight from Brussels to Oman via Doha with Qatar Airways in Business Class and Regional First Class with Al Safwa First Class Lounge Access return-trip for 90.000 Avios + taxes.

Did you sign-up for a American Express Gold Card? Your sign-up bonus will be significantly lower, but you can still make use of it in a lucrative way. You only need 45,000 Avios as mentioned above to get a one-way redemption with Qatar Airways.

Alternatively, already booked economy flights can be upgraded with Avios to Business Class. I for example booked a flight from Amsterdam to Cambodia via Doha and was able to upgrade my flight from Amsterdam to Doha for 40.000 Avios.

Other ways to use your points is by converting 1:1 to Hilton or Marriott points, where you can book hotel nights. Hilton has great redemptions such as the private villa’s in Bali. The best value is especially when you can book 5 nights, as with hotel redemptions on Marriott and Hilton, the 5th night is free.

Important things to know about American Express Belgium

• The American Express card has an annual fee of 780 euro for Platinum and 240 euro for Gold.
• American charges conversion fees for foreign currencies other than euro.
• The American Express is not accepted everywhere, but is accepted at supermarkets (Carrefour, Lidl), fuel stations (Q8), a lot of online webshops and many more. For the complete list, visit the American Express Portal.
